I hate it when I see someone that I'm sure I know, but I can't remember how I know them.
Sleep first, talk later.
2002-1-30 Wednesday 1:50:58
The last time I remember seeing on my clock when I was in bed last night was a staggering 5:00 AM. Tonight I plan to have it no later than 2:00 AM because I have to travel to Cooloola "tomorrow" (or today, as it were).
Hopefully I'll return with some good news about this contract :D Wish me luck, g'night :)

And sleep, at last.
2002-1-28 Monday 23:56:56
Go James Bond!
It's cooled substantially and there might be some rain tomorrow... mmm...!
Interesting... I was just posting messages with someone from the USA and they mentioned registering for the "Selective Service System". Wha? Then I checked out the website (www.sss.gov) and it all became rather clear. I wasn't aware that men (and only men) were required by law in the USA to register for "Selective Service", a kind of "stand-by military consent", once they reach their 18th birthday. It seems that you are required by the government to place yourself in a position of being sent to war "if the need arises". If you don't register you face a $250000 fine (half a million Australian) and/or up to 5 years in jail. Nice!
I'd have to say that I'd morally and ethically object to being placed in that situation. Who's right is it to send you off to be killed without choice and regardless of the cause? Sorry, I don't buy that "do it for your country" attitude. Sure, it's nice to be loyal to your country, I can understand it with something like... cricket... but when it comes to fighting the wars of other people and those of government instigation, they're on their own. If I was a USA citizen in that situation, I'd be applying for "Conscientious Objection".
I say if the politicians are so worried about the safety of their country, why not let them go and battle it out? It'd be a win-win situation. Firstly, they'd get to go on an overseas all-expenses-paid trip to stand around with a bunch of other politicians arguing over something that has nothing to do with the real world (wait a tic... they do that already...) and secondly, there'd be less of them in their home country annoying the public!
Good? Good. Nite! :D
A tad more rain today. I'm back in to heavy ASP coding mode, but just for fun right now (I know it sounds strange to say that ASP coding is fun, but there really isn't anything else to do around here). Basically playing around with some databases and that sort of thing... working out more efficient ways to execute complex queries.
I watched "15 Minutes" on DVD tonight... it was a really good movie. I came in to it with a certain stereotype in mind, but it was nothing like that.
I might have mentioned a while ago but I've been having problems with my second video card. I think it's dead. I gave it one last chance today but it kept causing the system to generate ACPI errors, so there must be something wrong with its hardware. It's caused lockups before so it's time to send it back and get a replacement - that is, if they still sell them.
On a totally different note, I think the world's energy mentality has serious problems. This is particularly evident in some areas of the USA at the moment. Ultimately, energy must be renewable. It's not sensible to think that we can keep generating electricity (and thus consuming, primarily, coal) endlessly without thinking about what we're going to use as energy sources 20 years from now. The notion of mining coal (which takes enough energy as it is) and then burning it, to heat water, which drives turbines, seems extremely inefficient. The energy lost in that conversion must be enormous! On the other than, things like wind farming, solar cells and - best of all - thermally-driven air turbines, seems like a far more logical and *shock horror* cheaper approach in the long term. The energy companies may not wish you to know this of course. Efficient energy design should be part of household design. More efficient lighting, hot water, etc. Anyway... just a thought; time for sleep.

Some more work finished today and some continued work on design ideas for next Wednesday when I'll be back in Cooloola meeting with a possible client. It's rained all afternoon and night which has been great. Finally a night of sleep where the temperature isn't above 30 degrees C, ahhh. I've also finally uploaded Kevin Moore's Octember Revolution video!
Now for a long weekend littered with more coding, designing and all that fun stuff. My body is aching so sleep sounds like a worthy idea. Night!
2002-1-25 Friday 16:15:19
Bwhaha, more rain! :D~ Mmmm, Red Eye Power :P~~
*gets back to work* Oh, that's right, it's the last day of the week, yey :D
Ahh, some nice, cooling, soothing, rain!
P.S. Telstra has some explaining to do.

I think the UV Index is misleading. Why? It's a scale from 1 to 15, but it's always listed as 15 (extreme) here! Now, don't get me wrong, maybe the UV radiation is "extreme" all the time here, but I'm pretty sure that some "15 (extreme)" days are more extreme than others. Which begs the question, shouldn't the index have a wider range?! To me it makes sense to have it more like 1 to 30!
Meanwhile, it's apparently going to rain tomorrow (however I'll believe that when I see it) and I've concluded that I don't have the energy to get anything more done tonight, so I might as well just get some sleep.
Nite!
2002-1-22 Tuesday 21:0:33
Another two possible website design contracts today :) I have to quote on one tonight. Should be interesting.
I still can't get used to the days lately... the sky is only really dark at around 7:45 PM now! C r a z y ! Anyway, I think I need some mind-numbing TV right now ;)
2002-1-21 Monday 12:42:50
The last month of bad sleep has finally caught up with me - I need an early night.
*gone*

After tackling a few problems with the site I've got it working a bit better. The back buttons on the inner pages weren't working correctly in IE6.0 but thanks to dis]orient[ed the problem was nailed easily. The other problem that exists is the inability for Netscape 4.7 users to access the site. Even though the frameset is 100% W3 validated and displays in all other browsers, it fails to display anything in Netscape 4.7. My advice to these people? Upgrade your browsers, it's free! They're up to version 6! :D I hate Netscape 4.7: It's a nightmare to develop anything with cascading style sheets and expect even the most simple of definitions to display correctly under it.
With more important news, the wedding went very well and it was a happy occasion :)
I got to see my brother's new BMW 316i, too. A very smooth machine, but I like my car better, heh ;)
My other brother and his wife are here for the day with my little nephew, property hunting!
2002-1-19 Saturday 10:18:35
What a strange time to put a new website online... right smack in the mid morning! Maybe I'm just crazy being awake at this hour. As you can all see by now (or should be able to) the new website is online! Tada! There are still bits missing, and I've even removed some of the older junk that was taking up space, but I hope you like the new layout. Yes, that nav-bar is quite large isn't it? I don't care, it's staying :P
Anyway, hope you like it :) You can send me all kinds of complaints through the contacts page about how bad it is etc, but right now I have to go to a wedding! Cya round :D
2002-1-19 Saturday 1:50:27
Just dropping in to say hi.
2002-1-17 Thursday 2:22:53
Just started reading the book Underground and it has me hooked!
2002-1-15 Tuesday 12:8:36
Just got back from another little meeting, with the Councillors of Cooloola Shire this time, to introduce the
new website, proudly designed by [f]irewave design of course :)
Actually I'm not *back* as such, just on my lappy (yey :D). Still haven't had anything to eat yet so I'll be going to the Brown Jug Cafe (of course ;) in a minute to grab a bite to eat, and then heading to the bank (since they messed me around in the bay yesterday!) here to fix up some account stuff and hopefully get some money from said website above. Heh. Well that's the plan! Anyway, enough complete babble!
*finishes day at work*
Happy Birthday Splash ;)
Another day, extreme heat. Productivity was less than I'd hoped for also. Work continues as always. As I move in to next week I'll have more inspiring things to say hopefully.
2002-1-12 Saturday 1:39:36
I hate to type this, but again I'm feeling crazily tired. This current state would be the most tired I've felt in weeks. I've completed more work on the CSC site and also a little more in places on my personal website. I was hoping to have it online tonight but that's not going to happen. Sleep is closing in quickly.
Tomorrow/today is going to be *hot*, weighing in at 40 degrees. Ouch. The heat is also draining my energy.
Before I fall asleep on my keyboard, I'll say goodnight and leave quietly...
Nite!
Too tired, must sleep.
2002-1-10 Thursday 2:33:40
While everything else is happening (and believe me, there couldn't be more happening!) work continues on the contact. Deadline is 15th, which is the date it will be presented to the public at the first Council meeting of 2002. I might actually go down for it... but it depends on a number of things. Could be convenient...
I've also added a few things to the redevelopment of this website. I'm not sure when the new version will be placed online, but I'll be sure to mention it in here before it happens. There are more important things to concern myself with however.
It was exhaustingly hot today, but it was a dry heat. It's nice to have your sweat actually evapourate! >:D
OK, need some sleep! Nite :)
2002-1-9 Wednesday 12:39:7
Coke is not a breakfast drink.
For the first time in a while, it's raining heavily. Kinda suits the atmosphere.
I know, again I've been slack updating this.
Well, after having a peak of 12 people and a dog (I think that's the total) in this house over the last week and a half I'm almost happy to say the total is back to its usual level. That said, it is nice to have something different happening all the time, and some pinball records to try to smash (no Justin, still haven't hit that 16.6 million yet ;)
I've continued working on the redesign of my website. It's a lot of work to reformat things and update the content.
I've taken the move of discarding lots of my old work from the gallery. As yet I don't know if this is a good idea. I will be placing some of them on again, but a few days after the site comes back online in its new form.
Really I want to get the site on as soon as possible so that I'm not working on it any more. It's starting to get in the way of my other work and I don't want that to happen. More updates later!
At least there was more than just 5 minutes or rain (yeah, it was about... 10 minutes, LOL).
Our good friends from down the road gave birth to their first child, a baby girl :) yey :D
Work continues on CSC... More info later...
2002-1-3 Thursday 16:39:28
Well the power went off 20 minutes ago, right in the middle of a conversation too. It was a stereotypical Ergon Energy grid failure of off--on-off-on--off, causing my UPS to click in but just that bit too late on the second off.
It's also just started pouring rain. Hopefully the rain will continue for a while so that the cool moist breeze flowing in through the window will have a chance to reduce the temperature... which is around 39 degrees.
Luckily I have my lappy to use in the meantime, but there was some data loss on the other computer.
Now it's just a waiting game to see how clued-up Ergon is and how quickly they can restore their apparently fault-resistant system. On the other hand it's raining, which has been predicted for the last two days, but didn't happen, and today's forecast was for fine weather, and it's raining! Props to the Bureau of Meteorology for their accurate predictions! :P
I was down at the public transport department before, changing my number plates over. Now I have my black and white plates on and they look really nice. The slimline front plate suits the car too. All that's left is to put the DVD Plaza plate frame on the back plate :) As I was driving out I saw a friend there coming back from their licence test. He looked pretty happy so I'm assuming he got it.
There is one good thing that's going to come out of this power failure: checking how long the battery on my laptop lasts. So far it's handling it well and is only at 95%. The rain's thinned out though... damn!
Time, as always, will tell.
The first day of a new year. I have a feeling that this year will be just as eventful as the last one, but hopefully in more positive ways.
Everyone's cleared out of this place now except a few, so the pace has changed a bit. It's much more peaceful.
The wind is howling outside and clouds are rolling in from the sea bringing along with them cooler air. Storms are predicted again for tomorrow.
New Year's Resolution: Enjoying the new year.
