Originally built in the 13th century and then reconstructed in 1628, the gate appears as if embedded in the surrounding trees. Despite being an enormous structure it doesn't feel at all imposing. Instead, it only reinforces the sense of calm and stillness of the area.

I was keen to go up to the second level to have a look around. Shoes off, of course, then up the steep stairs from the side.
